The Mebane on the Move Family Fitness Festival will take place on Clay Street in downtown Mebane on September 27th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The festival will include a 5K road race, 1-mile family fun run/walk, free fitness classes, a health and fitness expo, numerous kids activities, a bicycle rodeo and more.

5K Road Race
The 5K road race (3.1 miles) begins at 8:30 a.m. and is open to all runners and walkers. The course begins in downtown Mebane at the corner of Clay and 5th Streets and weaves throughout town on a slightly rolling course. Prizes will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group, and event t-shirts are guaranteed for the first 100 registrants. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.mebaneonthemove.com. Online registration is also available through Active.com. There will be a Friday evening packet pick-up option for all pre-registered participants. All proceeds benefit the Mebane on the Move initiative.

Family Fun Run/Walk, Bike Rodeo and Kids’ Activities
The family fun run/walk begins at 9:45 a.m. in the center of Mebane, on Clay Street between 3rd and 4th Streets. All fitness levels are welcome. Ribbons will be given to all kid finishers. The fun run/walk is all about fun – bring your entire family and help us celebrate Mebane on the Move. Other kids’ activities include a bicycle rodeo hosted by CycleSafe.org. The bicycle rodeo is designed to motivate kids to ride their bikes, educate them on proper riding safety and instruct them on the correct way to wear their bicycle helmets. Different events and stations in the rodeo help teach bicycle handling and safety skills. There will even be bicycle helmets available to purchase on site! Additional activities may include tumbling/gymnastics activities.

Health & Fitness Expo
The Health & Fitness Expo is a great way for families to introduce themselves to the many health and fitness opportunities in Mebane and the surrounding area. A wide variety of local health-related businesses and organizations will be offering engaging activities, such as drawings, games, give-a-ways, chair massages, nutrition seminars and much more. From healthy eating to strength training to preventative medicine – we'll have it all at the Health & Fitness Expo.

Free Fitness Classes & Demonstrations
The area's most popular fitness classes will be held every 45 minutes and are free for all participants. Classes include:
  • Yoga, Brenda Assante
  • Family Bootcamp, Annie Luxmore, Fitness Playground, LLC
  • Chi Running, Kari Wilkinson, K2 Fitness
  • Tae Kwon Do, Champions Martial Arts
  • Kettlebell Pump, Randy DeAngelo, CJETS Fitness Systems, LLC

Fitness demonstrations will also take place throughout the day, including dance from Xtreme Dance Academy and martial arts from Lee Brothers.

Mebane on the Move Initiative
Many local parents and families are looking for more convenient and affordable ways to get fit and make local healthy food choices. The Women's Club designed Mebane on the Move to help create these additional opportunities, educate residents about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle and introduce Mebane to the many health and fitness options that already exist in the area. The Family Fitness Festival is the first step toward meeting these goals.

Following the Family Fitness Festival, the Mebane on the Move initiative will begin working toward making Mebane a Fit Community by creating wellness opportunities at school, work, home and throughout our neighborhoods. The Mebane on the Move team has a variety of projects in mind to meet these goals, such as creating community fitness programs, developing walking and fitness trails, improving healthy "dining out" options, and working with the Mebane Community Garden. Mebane on the Move is a partnership between the Women's Club, local businesses, healthcare providers, city government, schools and neighborhoods to make a difference in the lives of local families.
